Bridget Rush-Hernandez was born and raised in Rockaway and is the youngest child of Delia and Bill Rush, both of Brooklyn. Her paternal grandparents hail from Counties Galway and Westmeath and her maternal great-grandparents hail from Roscommon and Leitrim. She is a graduate of Saint Camillus Elementary School and Beach Channel High School. Bridget earned a BA at Queens College, an MS in Education from Touro University, and did her post-graduate work at Molloy University in Teaching English as a New Language and Early Childhood Education. While at Queens College, Bridget earned her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a minor in Irish Studies. She was actively involved with the Irish Society and immersed herself in Irish language, literature, history and cultural studies. Bridget is a teacher at Northern Parkway Elementary School in Uniondale, New York. She is also a NYS licensed realtor.
Bridget became involved with the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians in 2006 when Division 25 was founded in Rockaway. She has served in officer positions beginning with Freedom for All Ireland and eventually Irish Historian. In 2008, Bridget was elected President of Division 25. During this time Bridget became a presence in the L.A.O.H. of Queens County. Bridget served on the Queens County Board as Irish Historian before becoming Queens County President in 2012 and 2021. She is currently a member of Division 15 in Whitestone, Queens and an active member of the Queens County Board.
Bridget and her husband, Jack Hernandez, currently reside in Glen Oaks, Queens, and are parishioners at Our Lady of the Snows.
