United Irish Counties Aide to the Grand Marshal

Michael O’Reilly was born in Mullahoran, Co Cavan, Ireland, the fourth of six children of Sean O’Reilly (Co. Westmeath) and Peggy Keogan (Co. Cavan).

Michael attended Mullahoran National School, and later Cnoc Mhuire Secondary School in Granard, Co. Longford.  Michael finished off his schooling with a plumbing apprenticeship with the Cavan County Council, graduating in August 1983.

In October of 1983, Michael immigrated to the United States.  His first job after arriving in New York was working in a garden apartment complex in Bayside, Queens.  Michael is currently employed as the Resident Manager at 80 East End Avenue in Manhattan.

In 1987, Michael met Rosie O’Reilly, a native of Co. Monaghan.  They married on May 5, 1990, and were blessed with three wonderful children, Cailean (RIP), Oisín and Slaine.

Michael is a proud Founding Member and Past President of the Shannon Gaels G.A.A. of New York.

Michael is also the immediate Past President of the United Irish Counties Association of New York, the Cavan P & B Association of New York and the Hibernia Provident Society as well as a Past President of the Emerald Guild Society.

Currently, Michael is on the board of the Hibernia Provident Society and is the Cathedral Co-Chairman for the NYC St Patrick’s Day Parade and Celebration Committee.

Taken from the History of the UICANY … “The success of the United Irish Counties has always been in that special pride of place that makes the men and women of Ireland and their descendants love the town or townland from whence they came.”  In November 2023, Michael was delighted to accept, on behalf of United Irish Counties, the Irish Business Organization of New York’s Golden Jubilee Award for Community Leadership.

Michael is truly grateful to his family and friends for their love and support.
