Yvonne Sheehan (née McGlynn) was born in Dublin, Ireland, to Frank and Kathleen McGlynn, the third of eight children. At age 21 she emigrated to London and worked as a nanny for four years. This was the beginning of a long career in service to children.
Yvonne received her green card through a lottery and moved to Staten Island, NY, to be near her sister Catherine Travers. She started a new career as a dental assistant moving up to a managerial position.
Yvonne joined LAOH St. Brigid Division 4 in 1994 and became Vice President and helped set up a Junior Division. She was elected President in 2021. She was the Aide to the Grand Marshal of the Staten Island St. Patrick’s Parade in 2008 and was honored at the LAOH County Board Luncheon. Yvonne was given a tremendous honor in 2010 to be named the Irish Woman of the Year by the St. Columcille Irish Cultural Center. She also worked for many years with the Staten Ireland Irish Fair and was honored to be the Colleen Queen in 2016.
Yvonne has worked on the 4×4 Fundraiser for the past 17-years. She helped at the Notre Dame Club food drive and was a Co-Leader for the Girl Scouts. She also volunteered at Our Lady Queen of Peace School.
When her children were older, Yvonne went back to work at Seton Foundation for Learning working with autistic children in the preschool.
Yvonne married Desmond Sheehan in May 2002, and they are the proud parents of two wonderful children. Maeve is in her second year at Trinity College, Dublin and Ronan is a senior in Monsignor Farrell High School. She is a parishioner and a lector of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, New Dorp, NY.
